Questions & Answers
What is a Stakeholder?▼
A stakeholder is any person or organization that can affect, be affected by, or perceive themselves to be affected by an organization's decisions or activities. According to Clause 4.2, "Understanding the needs and expectations of interested parties," common to ISO management system standards (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 27001), an organization must identify its relevant stakeholders—such as customers, employees, shareholders, suppliers, and regulators—and determine their requirements.
Why should Taiwanese companies prioritize this?▼
Taiwan's Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) promotes stakeholder rights through its "Corporate Governance 3.0 - Sustainable Development Roadmap" and the "Corporate Governance Best-Practice Principles for TWSE/TPEx Listed Companies". With the rise of ESG, investors, customers (especially international brands), and supply chains increasingly demand disclosure of stakeholder engagement. Ignoring their expectations can lead to loss of orders, financing difficulties, or regulatory penalties, posing significant risks to sustainable operation.
Which ISO standards or international regulations are directly related?▼
The concept of stakeholders is directly related to numerous international standards, with its core requirement outlined in the common management system framework (Annex SL). Key standards include: - **ISO 9001:2015** (Quality Management): Clause 4.2 - **ISO 14001:2015** (Environmental Management): Clause 4.2 - **ISO 27001:2022** (Information Security Management): Clause 4.2 - **ISO 45001:2018** (Occupational Health and Safety): Clause 4.2 - **ISO 31000:2018** (Risk Management): The standard's principles and process emphasize communication and consultation with stakeholders.
